Hello,

I don't know how many people here do this but before I had a kid (he is 2 now) I used to create yearly calendars out of my pictures for that year, and give them out as Christmas gifts. I have created one for our family, another one for the trip to London/Berlin, I did one for closeups/macro, and last year I did food/macro. So now I am kinda running out of ideas.

I could do one for the pictures of my kid but looking for other ideas, in case any of you do this yearly or have done in the past. I would like to keep a theme rather then all my best pictures of the year, that would be a mish-mash of different pictures.

Ideas?

Lots of possibilities: Cats, Dogs, flowers...anything along that line. What interests do you have? Old cars? Ar you urban or rural? It would take pre-planning, but one idea would be to take some from each month as a representation. Or a holiday or event from each month. Into sports? local festivals?

I do annual calendars of several of the shots I take during the year. I have had mine made at Office Max the last 3 years, great quality and great prices, $7 a copy when you wait for their specials, $12 regularly.

What do you submit? Tiffs or Jpegs?

They accept either but prefer JPGs. Always ask for a proof when ordering multiple calendars, they will do one. Its a good idea since their printers color profile is often not a good match with what you may have on your computer. I always take in my images on a card or CD as well as a sheet of printer thumbnails so they can self-match colors to the thumbnails, a lesson I learned the first year.

http://www.calendarlabs.com/2014-calendar-templates.php
ebay, and photoback.com , HP or places to get templates.
I been sending them out to people over 5 years I photograph all year, it makes me money. It cost me 25 cents plus postage. return think about it. Put your logo small on the front or back. YOU print it, it makes it personal and your costumer will love you for it.

billybob40, can you show us a page or three of one of the latest calendars that you made and sent out please?
If you use one of the templates as the link has, how do you attach or imbed one of the photos? Thanks for the idea too billybob40! Dave

Depending on how large you extended family is, you could do close-ups of hands, lips, eyes, etc. It would be a challenge figuring out whose hand is featured for the month.

How about one of the whole family showing special moments through the year- graduations, weddings, vacations, kid's 1st haircut, etc. If nothing happened any particular month, then family pets, or family relaxing on patio, etc.
I used to do calendars, too, so I know what you mean!
Good luck!

What is important to your family? If you're religious, maybe cool churches in your area. Farmers? How about barns? Or maybe locations that are important to your family, i.e., that drive in theater you used to go to as kids, your favorite old restaurant, etc.

I'm currently working on collecting images for my mother of all the homes she lived in throughout her life. There are only 7, but I figure I'll fill the missing months with places she's lived longer.

I also do calenders for Christmas, I giving them to friends and use them as gifts when going to parties etc during the holidays. One year we did a calender shots of our town where we live. Not many family members come to visit due to age, health etc. so this gives them an idea of our surroundings. It was fun acting as a tourist in our own backyard.

Will this help...
I have one DVD that has over 100 templates lay outs and 10 dates each. But not a lot for 3 picture cut outs.
easydigitals.com will do special orders at a great price or let me know what you need and I can send it like this. I set most of my calendars for 8 x 10s less postage. The list I gave you yesterday has a world of freeies use them, I have a 1TB external HD for templates and backdrops only, have 1000s. GOOD LUCK and more it a FUN thing.

A colour theme? January red, February orange, March Bright yellow, April cream, May green, June aqua, July blue, August purple, September lilac, October rose/pink, November white, December all colours.

Or Google a birthstone list and find a series with that.

Pick one holiday for each month: New Year's, Valentine's or groundhog day, Spring equinox, Earth Day, Mother's Day, flag day or Father's day, Independence day, non-holiday month, Labour day, Columbus day, Veterans day, Christmas (I only picked the ones that came to mind, I'm sure there are others that maybe lend themselves better to photos).

I have done many calendars over the past 6 years. My main themes are Old Tractors, Old Barns and Homes, Flowers, and Animals and Birds. Just a few ideas. Have fun.
