I recently upgraded my computer to a Windows7 64bit. Works great HOWEVER: My digital painting software, a Corel product Painter 4 Essentials is incompatible. Bummer!

Corel was very unhelpful and only offered their high end program PainterX3 at $429. This is not an option for me at this time. In fact this puts me as an X-Corel customer.

I would appreciate input on your experiences with other software I can consider which will allow me to follow my passion for digital painting and portraits.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Davis, I have several 32bit programs installed on my Win7 machine.
Locate the folder where the 32bit programs are installed and when installing your program, change the installation path to thar folder - that might work.
I also read something about compatibility mode for older programs - may be worth looking into.
I'm sorry, can't look it up for you as I'm not at home and working from my tablet right now.

I've been looking at that software for months. My brilliant granddaughters are good artists and good photographers.

You gave me the excuse to test it. In the last 10 minutes I downloaded, installed and tried the 60 day trial on my Windows 7 64 bit computer.

It works fine. This will be fun!

Davis,
I am so sorry that happened. I don't have any idea what to tell you. Suffice it to say that, I, too, like to do digital painting. In fact I published two books with my art in them, one was a children's picture book. You can see it here:

http://www.blurb.com/b/2390782-the-wonderful-world-of-misty-the-magical-cat-softc

I used Microsoft's Digital Image Suite to create the illustrations. But I'm sure you are a better artist than me because I've only been doing digital painting since 2009.

*Footnote: Microsoft's Digital Image Suite is outdated. It is no longer produced. So I guess when I get my next computer, it will probably be incompatible with my new computer. :(

Thanks! I am going to give Gimp a try. Learning curves are steep but time is what I have as well as an itch to scratch. I'll keep you posted as things develop.

Esther is probably right (as usual) - Painter Essentials is a 32bit application.

On C Drive you should have 2 folders, the first is "Program Files" and the second is "Program Files (x86)". It is the 2nd folder "Program Files (x86)" where Painter needs to be installed to. ALMOST all of my old XP applications run well from there, though there are one or two exceptions.

If your copy is in Program Files I would uninstall it completely and reinstall in the (x86) folder.

I have the 60 day trial installed and will probably pay for a serial number soon.

Thanks for the input! I have already had the progrom in the 86 folder. No improvement. I have deleated and reinstalled several times to no avail. I think I will leave it out and continue to search for a replacement.

Run it compatibility mode XP SP3 or 2.
Add it to your anti virus exclusion list especially if using Norton.
Have you installed the service patch?
http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index.jsp?pgid=800161&ppid=1000122

If it loading slowwww put a "Color Profiles" folder in the "resources" folder < D:\Corel\Corel Painter Essentials 4\Resources>
