My 4 year old daughter and I had a blast making a bunch of these this morning. Of course mommy painted the details on the snowmen.
Supplies:
Washable white paint
Paint brush (I used a sponge one to get in the fingerprints)
Assorted colors of acrylic paints or paint pens
Ornaments
Clear sealant (optional)
Instructions:
Paint childs fingers and the top part of their palm white. This will become the four snowmen.
Carefully have them hold the ornament in their hand to create the snowmen.
After the handprints are dry, use paint pens to decorate. You can add faces, arms, buttons, scarves and hats.
Once all of the paint is dry, spray them with a clear sealant (optional).
If the finger/palm print doesn't come out to your liking, use a wet cloth to wipe off and try again.
Attach a tag with this poem:
These arent just four snowmen
As anyone can see.
I made them with my hand
Which is part of me.
Now each year when you trim the tree
Youll look back and recall
Christmas of 2011
When my hand was just this small!

That is so cute! I have done a version of this in the past with kids when I taught junior church. I just used paint pens and had them draw snowmen, Christmas tree, stars, etc the best they could giving them a little help along the way. I never even thought of using washable paint and having them use their hands. Thanks for sharing!!

This is such a great idea....may I post this picture and directions on Pinterest? I will credit you with the idea....Thanks Sheila
That is awesome! I am going to do this with my sister's baby son. This is his first Christmas, so it will be a great traditional to start now! (Of course he won't probably hold the ornament, but we can press his painted hand onto it I think! Then quickly wash his hand off!)
Sheila, by all means, go right ahead (although I didn't originally create this idea...no idea who did).
Meg - My daughter is 4 years old. I hold the ornament for her lol!!
