Next to the common House Sparrow, I hazard to guess that Herring Gulls are one of the most widespread species in the United States. I've seen them on both coasts, in Michigan, and as far west at Utah, Wyoming and Montana. They are quite beautiful in flight (especially if you can catch them in a panorama), and equally as raucous on the ground. Jonathan Living Seagull anyone?
