I am seeking critical feedback from experienced photographers, not just "I like it," or "It's nice." Please be specific, but pointed. And, polite would be nice.
Nikon D7000, 1/40 sec at f/8 with a tripod in morning light, ISO 100, 105mm focal length, manual and spot focus. Leaves were arranged. PP done in LR5. :-)

A critical critique isn't really possible without you loading the photo with the (store original) clicked so we can zoom in on the photo.

Can you upload again in this same thread but click on the (store original) with it ?

Thanks

First off, it is hard to determine whether the leaves are significantly sharp due to the thumbnail, or perhaps you intended a softer focus?

Subjectively, your photo appears too busy with no true discernible subject. Perhaps if you had a large leaf that was noticeably a different or brighter color, or a shape quite different from the others to serve as a subject to improve the composition. The image also appears to be underexposed to me.

Just my opinion, you may certainly have a differing one. :)

Hi. For me the picture is un-ballance with all the action on the RH side and two much uninteresting matter in the LH top corner. The light on the right and along the bottom is lovely and brings one leaf particularly beautifully into frame, the other 2/3 seems to dominate two much.I feel it requires a stronger element somewhere or perhaps cropping? The focus looks good but maybe another 1/2 stop may lift it a bit more. That said it is an interesting study piece.

This is a snap shot of some leaves on the ground - not a thoughtfully composed image of fall leaves.

What is the purpose or intent of your photo?
Nice colors but little impact.

Could work as a background to text in the appropriate situation. Good exposure. ;-)

Critical:

What am I looking at? Its a pile of leaves. A snapshot at the very best. Is it good? For a snap its good. As a photo you would present someone it is not good. It doesnt keep my attention, I have no reason to keep looking at it. No emotional draw to the image, nothing ill think back on after this review of it.

It feels like you pushed the clarity and sharpening too much and the colors feel very muted.

I cant say there are any changes that I feel would make this better.

Sorry to share my thoughts on this but I am in love with this photograph! Don't change a thing OP(original poster), it is really powerful.

Bless the autumn. Tim.

Sharpening amount at 42, with Detail at 50 as per landscape photographer Michael Fry's recommendation. It is, however, which I forget to note, an HDR image. Clarity is +28.

I have no idea what "outside the crop" would reveal, but to me it is cropped too tight, and one of what look like Sugar Maple leafs in its bright red fall color would add a point of interest.

It's not cropped at all, but was shot for a tight crop. Yes, next time I'll search around to find that color spot!

Composition - there is no center of interest where your eyes will gravitate to. Try placing a leaf or any element that will stand out. They also call this the breaker. Without this, the viewer's eyes will go around and around searching for nothing.

Lighting - photography is drawing with lights but your photo is filled with shadows and only the upper right corner is well lighted. The viewer's eyes will always go to the brightest area. Be sure to have something interesting there.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for a polite and critical response.

My attention is drawn to the orange leaf in the upper right section of your photo. If that leaf is your focal point, it should be the brightest and sharpest of all. I see nothing wrong with your composition. Overall it's a very pretty picture. Just needs a few minor adjustments.
