Setting up in camera folders

I understand that folders can be set up in the camera. I have a Canon 7D. When I shoot an event it isn't always on the same day. Also I might have two or three events to shoot. Without having to use different cf cards how can I do this?

As always thanks for your help.

I do not know if Canon has that option. I know Sony has had this option on all their cameras since at least 2000.

According to page 80 of the 7D Users Manual, this can be done. It does appear you're limited to a fixed naming standard and changing the names (p 81) appears to need to be performed when the card is inserted to a PC.

I read that too but it sounded like I was resetting numbers of the images.

Page 80 if the updated manual (6/28/12) explains how.

Yes, make sure you've installed the latest firmware into your 7D and then download the latest manual in pdf format so you can read about some of the new features. I don't know if custom folders has changed or not but I know that you can do it on a 7D. I've never wanted to do it because it does complicate matters when downloading them onto the computer.

I guess I can understand your reluctance to change cards from event to event but that's really the simple way to keep track.

Another thought is that when you pull the first card from the first event and put it in your pocket you know those photos are secure until you can get to your computer.

If I sound cautious it comes from bad experiences.

Good luck

Yes I think you're right. It's a simpler way to do it.
