Looking to buy a fog machine....
Did the search and found nothing. Has anyone used a fog machine for effects ?
And if so....any recommendations on a specific brand and amount of power.
And the remote seems to be a necessity, any ideas or comments would surely be welcomed. Thanks to all.

Are you looking for atmosphere smoke, haze, or low fog? All are produced by different machines. Dry ice immersed in hot water will create low fog, hazer machine will create even atmosphere smoke indoors, regular smoke machine will create bursts of smoke.
Its a good time of year for relatively inexpensive standard smoke machines, check the local Halloween stores.
As for the pro versions, they can be pricey, check theater lighting rental houses, Chicago should have a few.
Google dry ice fog machines, hazer machines, smoke machines
I picked one up just after Halloween for $20. I forget what fog juice cost but it goes a long way. You can get scented fog juice if you like. This time of year they're widely available at party stores and elsewhere. Cheap ones I think are from about $30-$50. High-end ones from theatrical supply stores are much more.
Make sure no one has asthma or breathing difficulties, and have a way to clear the fog...

Some of the small cheapies are not very powerful or effective. You're not going to get a Hollywood effect for $50.
Thank you all for the time to answer. I really didn't know there was such a desrceptancy in fog machines. I should have been more specific of what I needed. Alot good ideas thank you. Sort of wanted to use inside but wanted a strong enough one if I should want to use it outside. Again thanks for coming thru for me everybody.

You can get them as little as $15 or in the 1000's Right after Halloween they are cheep. Have had a lot of them for stage use. best bang for your buck I have found is the antari line fog and haze machines you can get a good one for $200 that will work for photo shoots. You can use a cheeper one but the wait time to heat up can be 10min or so. As for using them inside you have to have air flow control or after a bit your lights will wash out your pics and flash will just bounce back at you. look on youtube to make ice boxes for low fog {just a cooler, a computer fan or two and dryer ducting} on that note the fog will creep up the legs of a model or any heat source. there is a lot you can do with them, look on ebay for good deals.

I borrowed one once from dj friend to use in a reasonable sized studio... He warned that unless it was a large hall with plenty of ventilation, the "smokiness" would be unbearable.. He was right.
Be aware of respiratory problems! I had to leave an event because of a severe reaction!
