I just shot this picture by the roadside near my home, feeling that some forum members may not have ever seen one. They are very big. I'd appreciate suggestions concerning what I might do to improve this photo.
Nice , you could put something next to the cow to give the scale

We could always ask you (nicely, of course) to go stand beside her. Although it is hard to tell without the original, judging from the close set and small horns this MAY be a female. She very likely is about 1.75 meters tall at the shoulder and weighs about 1,600 pounds (I don't know the conversion to stones), ohh and I should warn you . . . Longhorns don't have a reputation as the friendliest of beasts.
You go ahead and stand beside her mate . . . we'll watch

Ed, again its hard to tell a great deal from this thumbnail, yet my knee-jerk reaction is, "Would you have had better results with a custom white balance card to take best advantage of the existing lighting conditions?"

The picture Breck posted has been circulating around the internet for some months.

Beautiful animal. That's how cows should look!
You might different white balance in post processing for a cooler look, and then go to a darker exposure and greater contrast so the animal will stand out. On that vein, you could crop out the left side of the picture so that the animal is about on the 2/3 vertical line and crop out most of the sky to focus more on the animal. Then you might try fiddling with sharpening and grain reduction to make things as clear as you can.
Thank you all for your nice words and helpful suggestions. I can use all the help I can get. I've never tried the white card method---'will try that.
breck, what on Earth is that thing? (not the little boy---the bigger one)

No idea Ed, I was sent it with a joke about fearless Texans, it might be a brama bull??
I must get back to the USA, lovely scenery, people and roads, and your NP's are brilliant

The animal is a Brahma bull. They are from India and can withstand the heat and humidity along any coast line. They are considered sacred in India and you get a lot of prison time if you kill one.
Never shoot anything in direct sun! Wait for a cloudy day. Get close... Real close... Put a bird on it's horn.... Use your favorite bird call.... Wait till he lays down..... make sure there's some seagulls flying by....
and if you can't get all that to happen... Just put the pieces together and make it look photo realistic....
This is all a joke except for the my image part... I hope you have a since of humor!
This is my image.
