I went to Tohono Chul Park this morning for breakfast and to see the sculptures they have on display there. I was interested to see if they still had a sculpture there that I saw there in 2011.
The sculpture was still there and they had some others by the same artist. The artist is from Kenya and uses recycled iron for his work.
There was a small plaque attached to a post at the site of the horse when I was there in 2011 that read:
" Renowned metal sculptor from Kenya Kioko Mwitiki breathes life into recycled metal. Regognised as a pioneer Kioko doesn't use new iron for his artwork, but instead he uses what most of us would consider rusty recyclables-from food cans to vehicle parts. The unique animal designs have been exhibited across East Africa and Europe as well as the San Diego Zoo & Wild Animal Park in California."
It is unusual art and he has done a very good job of proportionalizing the horse. There are also a mule deer and a sitting wolf and standing wolf at the park at this time.
I hope you enjoy these.
They are s.o.o.c.
That is a good looking horse. When I saw "iron horse" I was thinking a train.

That can be thought for sure. It is still an iron horse, just not a wheeled one.
Good shots and interesting history Jethro!

It is also an oddity that I find interesting. I want to get to san Diego to the Zoo as I have heard he has a full size gorilla there. It is something I would like to see.
Thanks for looking,
Kent
