Hello everybody.
I'm new to this forum. Excited about conversing with everybody when it comes to photography or any other subject that might come up. I am always open to learning something new everyday.
Anyway I would classify myself as a relative newby in photography my wife and children gave me a Nikon d40 2 years back as a gift. I can't get enough of it.
I am open for all suggestions and critique that will allow me to enhance my skills.
Below are some photos that I had taken in Havre De Grace, Md over the last couple of winters. I would appreciate your thoughts on where I can improve.
The first two I had something get into my lense didn't realize it until after they were taken.
Trying to get a macro shot
Trying to get an action shot
Trying to get another macro shot
You got the bug...the shooting that bug that is....You can crop that black line out of your first shot and have a really good head shot of that bird. Rules say...cant mess with someone elses photo without permission or I would do it for you. Welcome, have fun and learn.
Welcome aboard.
Wow: another Nikon user, a D40 at that! And from MD.
Nice shots, BTW. I love the gull - god focus on the eye.

I would think the black line rivernan referred to might be a cleaning issue as it's in the second pic too. A little pufferbrushh action might help. If you used a different lens on the third it may be on the lens itself. Nevermind shoulda read the whole commentary to your OP
Black line or not..great shots. Welcome
Welcome JPRJk. Good shots.
Welcome aboard I am new too....nice folks here and a good place to learn a lot. :-)
