Vermont Fall Color

My wife and I will be in Vermont from October 4 through the 7th specifically to do fall color photography. In that my wife has mobility issues, hiking long distances is not an option. We have reservations for accommodations in both the Stowe and Manchester Center areas. I'm wondering if any of you have some suggestions on the best areas that are accessible by car in those areas. I've been on many web sites that offer color tour suggestions, but would appreciate first hand information from photographers who know the area. Thank you in advance for any ideas you might have.

Take the Mountain Road that goes up to the Notch and beyond. Follow the high way to Jeffersonville and on to Waterville. Continue on Hwy 109 to Belvidere CornersThen take 188 South to Eden. Then turn left on Hwy 100 to Eden Mills. There is an asphalt surfaced road going south to Craftsbury, follow that on Hwy 14 Hwy 15 west to Morrisville. Take Hwy 100 south to Stowe. If the weather is kind (meaning no rain storms with wind) you should have an overdose of color without leaving your auto. More advice. Don't go too far South because most of the hard Maples are North of Stowe. If you are a Maple Syrup fan take the road out of Stowe (100) south just out of Stowe and turn right to Moskow. Continue till you see a sign on the left Nebraska Knoll. Don't be put out by the one lane road that winds back up to the Sugar House where Lou and Audry Coty make the best Maple Syrup in the Country. They are often not at home. Go right in to the Sugar House, but don't let the cat in. Pick out what you want to buy, leave a check or cash in the cigar box. We lived in Stowe for a few years and have a daughter and family that still live there. You will have a nice trip and drive safely. Moose and deer are plentiful, even if you don't see them.

Wow. Great directions and detail, as well as really fine shots. Thanks so much. I'll be certain to take this route -and to buy some maple syrup!

All good routs, as mentioned above. You will also need a "colors report", which tells which areas are at their peak, not yet at peak or past peak. Weather can do drastically different things to fall colors. Hope you hit a peak time. Happy shooting. DJT

Also, the peak time for viewing generally moves from North to South. Forgot to mention that. DJT

Thank you. We're beginning in Stowe and ending in Manchester for accommodations hoping to take advantage of that, although I realize it's a short time frame. Will access color reports online.
