Frapha: "How to photograph Automobiles" reference list!! Thanks.

I spent my life in R&D and product/process improvement. For stable processes we write SOPs, standard operating procedures because the Chef on each shift must follow procedure... if cooking polyester polymer, eggs, or photographing an auto or lovely nude (no not women,,,cat,, furless Sphynx Cat Breed). Same SOP approach applies to repetitious photography like cars. Cars are beautiful,,, my first love as a 16 year old in the then car capital of the world.

I am going to down load and extract the essence of the ones suggested and have my directions of "how to" thus when I go to a car show I will not be bumbling around... my natural state.
Thank you Frapha  x10 out of 10

PS: No guys a Plethora is not a hat...that would be Phedora or Fedora. In expensive shops they use PH form to charge more $$$... photographing women with Fedoras is another challenge. Plethora is a whole bunch of hats like " 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins" We would be photographing those ladies and hats for a long time.... Stick with the cars... much safer!!! :D

And a polarizing filter, for windscreens and tire black.

Put a pretty girl in a bikini alongside the car. Works every time.

Ed,

You might try the HDR mode on your camera (I believe there is one on the D3100).

I shoot them all the time, I prefer low angles, 10-22 lens. Many times I shoot parts of cars.

If you click on my name you will find a list of my images, that will give you an idea of my philosophy

Here's one of mine. The '48 Ford belongs to a friend who was driving around the block for me.
