dpullum, that you do a lot of reading and have a lot of knowledge is apparent but having seen your web site, it is equally apparent that, as happens all too often with academics in all fields of endeavour, you fail to apply that theory to your photography. The best driver and most useful tool for improvement is not a lens or a camera, it is the developed ability to self critique. I refer to your web photographs; <http://pullumdonald.jalbum.net/> not to demean them however as you must be sufficiently satisfied with them that you put them up for the world to see, they represent the sum total of your practical application to photographic image making. There are a great many things to be learned from books but the art of photography is not one of them. Rob.

I was on a glacier near Jasper yesterday. Talk about a time to override the meter. At least four stops.

It is a shame that dpullum has left this thread winterrose. I am sure he would have benefited from your words.

What have I said which is outside actuality. Learning how to operate a camera within its design parameters is a relatively simple exercise whilst art cannot be learned from a book. Photography, after all, is an art.

Now your stretching your self kind of thin son.
The internet is a modern day book and I'm teaching you all kinds of stuff. 8-) "ART" as an object is created not learned. There are folks here who got smarts they want to share. These "teachings" are passed down by book, word of mouth or sheer luck stumbling onto something. So get down off your high horse and chill. :hunf: I want to know every use of my palm that I have.

ladies & gents, I patiently read all these misunderstandings but although the original post topic was interesting enough, I have to consider not bothering with UHH forums if this tone be typical.
Go cheerfully folks.
