Interesting photos. The castle looks like an atmospheric subject to photograph. The bagpipe photo with a collecting box reminds me of the saying "He who pays the piper calls the tune".

Very nice photos but please give Edinburgh the "h" to which it's entitled. Your spelling would also help to explain the mis-pronunciation with a hard "g".

Thanks Trudy. I appreciate the comments. The castle was bathed in lights during the tattoo.

Thanks for the comments artec540. You are correct, the spelling should be Edinburgh. It really was confusing there as they pronounced the name as Edinborough.

Thank you for your comments mark.r. We also went to Wales. Spent a day in Cardiff and visited Pembroke Castle. Then crossed the Irish Sea by ferry. Our return from Ireland by the ferry took us to Holyhead and then to Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

Unfortunately it was raining and I did not get any good pictures.
I did get a few pics in Cardiff, however. Cardiff is where we ate our first fish & Chips at the Dragonfly Inn !

I understand. I think the .....urgh spelling is just an abbreviation of the ....ough, so maybe their pronunciation, indeed the normal pronunciation in the UK, is understandable.
I live in the US, where it's almost always pronounced ....urg, with a hard "g", so until I saw your location as Spain, I expected you to be from the US!
I hope you enjoyed your visit!

Your explanation makes sense to me. I think you are right. However, I live in the USA, North Carolina to be exact.

Just saw the PBS telecast of Hollyroodhouse. Very interesting history involved with that old structure.

I wish that I had seen the PBS telecast. Our hotel in Edinburgh was only a block from Holyroodhouse and across the street from the Scottish Parliament.
We were told that the Queen stays at Holyroodhouse when she is in Scotland.
Thanks for your comments.

Sorry about misplacing you. I have no idea where I got the Spain from. I went back through the thread and can find no excuse.

Yes, the Queen has been known to stay at Holyrood. What will happen if Scotland votes for independence is another matter!!!!!!!

Do you think that an independent Scotland would have a detrimental effect on relations ? Is Holyrood British or Scottish property ?

The Scots and the Welsh have ALWAYS resented the English, - a VERY good friend of mine is Scottish!!!! (my sister-in-law is Welsh), (and I'm of Scottish descent0 The palace is Scottish property, and I do believe that independence WILL harm the relationship. The majority of Scots do not want independence, (at the moment).
There are some good reasons for Scottish independence, but economics is NOT one of them!!!!
I would prefer a United Kingdom, but England can certainly go it alone. Scotland and Wales, at the moment, certainly get more financially from the U.K. government than they contribute, despite Scottish oil and Gas. The outcome of a vote remains to be seen. Alex Salmon, (the Scottish Prime Minister will attempt to persuade the Scottish voter to vote for independence. The first victim will be the submarine base at Holy Loch - Salmon has already stated that he wishes to close it. That will be a loss to England and NATO as this base is used by NATO submarines, (including the U.S.)
