I prefer the 120-400 and 150-500 which I use every day as they have more reach

Its a wonderful lens, and a good sports step-up over the standard 70-200mm F2.8's. The newest version also has a USB dock available which allows the user to adjust focus, focus limits and even install future firmware updates. No other lens maker can supply this versatility at any price. Its also fully compatible with Sigmas 1.4X and 2X converters to add even more range and versatility over longer, much slower zoom offerings.

I don't think a please is required, that is what contributors want to do, help. Unless one is so deprived of recognition, you can skip it with most of us.

I don't have one. But I've seen plenty of images from people who do. Striking images! I WISH I could afford one...I would absolutely have one if I could. :(

A few months ago, after much consideration (and assistance from UHH) I bought this lens to take on safari to South Africa. I bought the model without the USB dock, and I got it used. Still cost way too much lol. But OMG it performed like a dream. I kept it on my D7100 almost the whole time. I learned a lot about handling a big heavy lens. I brought a monopod which I never used. And I was able to get shots that the guy with the D3S/400mm f/2.8 combo couldn't think of trying.

look for South Africa 2013 and Cape Buffalo. Be careful about the cape buffalo set...

My friend has the new version and swears by it with a 2x converter and a cropped body it gives him all the reach he needs

What camera are you going to use it on? If you are going to use it on a camera that you can micro-adjust the lens you can save a few bucks, you probably will not need the usb docking station. Most of the time I have this lens mounted on a Canon 7D and saved about a $1,000.00 by purchasing a model manufactured just prior to the new model coming out. This is not a cheap lens but it is an excellent one, one of Sigma’s “EX” professional series of lenses!

As MT pointed out it works well with the Sigma 1.4X TC, including with AF. It also works with the Sigma 2X TC but I rarely use that one.

I bought this lens to mainly use at a local rodeo late in the evening in low light. If I can I will be there tonight and post some photos for you to see tomorrow.

Here are two shots taken about a month ago. The second photo was taken in the rain so is not as sharp as it could have been.

Thanks oldtool
I shoot primarily sports with a couple of 1d mkiii

And also a 7d. That's great advice because all my bodies can micro adjust and I can save a g any time. I'd love to see more pics.
Thanks agajn

You will want to read this - http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2013/06/sigma-120-300-f2-8-os-sport-part-1-features-and-optics - ALSO this - http://photographylife.com/reviews/sigma-1-4x-teleconverter - As a zoom, mostly what you are giving up is sharpness away from the center of the image - which will be more ponounced on full frame, but in most cases probably unnoticed ! The new one is ostensibly, more reliable and of course programmable - for $1000 more.

I just read a piece on the sigma 150-500 . and the test said don't get the 150-500mm as you won't be happy with 500mm and you will be shooting it at
400mm and it's sweet spot any way . have you noticed that it's a lot better at
the 400mm setting than it is at 500mm . I think it was written by ThomHogan . com . it's way better at 400 acording to him ?
