The cicadas are making their presence known around here in Wisconsin. I saw this one making it's way up a dead branch.

Nice set MJL, very crisp, very clean, and pinpoint focus. Certainly qualifies as a close up and also macro. You should post these over there as well.

The face-on is the best. Here in Chicago they're making a big deal of the wasps coming to town for the cicadas ... I don't like the wasps as much ...

These are insects about 2 inches long. They make a loud buzzing noise and clicking sounds to attract a mate. If you have a tree full of them buzzing in concert, it can get really quite irritating to your ears. Other than that, they seem to harmless to people. Thanks for stopping in for a look. Mike

Thanks MRR. I'm glad you liked these images and got to see the cicada close up. I'll bet you have heard plenty of them lately. Mike

Thanks for looking and leaving a comment CHG_CANON. The face-on image is also my favorite of the bunch. I have not seen any of the wasps yet. They should be around though, there sure are a lot of cicadas free for the picking. Mike

Hi Steve, I appreciate your comments and thumbs up. The first three images are stacked, the last one is a single shot. Mike

These were all shot in shadows in the morning so I used a tripod to help cope with lower light levels. Mirror lock up was used along with a remote shutter trigger. All were shot at ISO 320. Here is the other photo info,
Image #1, f5, 1/100 sec SS, 5 frame stack.
Image #2, f8, 1/25 sec SS, 5 frame stack.
Image #3, f10, 1/15 sec SS, 5 frame stack.
Image #4, f22, 1/2 sec SS. Somewhere along the way I read a reply by fstop22 that f22 was his favorite f-stop. Since I have been admiring his images for quite some time, I thought I'd give it a go. Usually I shoot in the more wide open range of aperture, but was quite pleased with how the "portrait" turned out. Thanks for sharing your tips fstop22. Mike
