I think of the traditional "A" is for apple. There are lots of wild apple trees flourishing in our neighbourhood.
A is also for acorns. When I was a kid we used to collect acorns, bore a hole in them and insert a matchstick and pretend we were smoking an acorn pipe.
And there are a couple or more butterflies with species names starting with an "A". Admirals and American Lady.
And A is for axe; The World's largest axe can be found at Nackawic, New Brunswick.
