I am trying to buy my first camera but I really don't understand much about the MP #'s and such. The 2 cameras I seem to keep going back to are the Canon Rebel T3i and the Nikon D3200. Can you please give me any help on these 2 or maybe advice on another camera for a photography nut but still kind of a beginner? Thanks so much, Cat

Hi CarolinaCat. Welcome! I have the T3i. Can I ask why you are interested in an SLR specifically? (compared to say, a "bridge" camera that offers many of the same features but for less money)

Also, you will shortly find out your topic has been moved by admin, likely to "main forum." The reason:

Here's a site that compares the two camera you were asking about. Here's the link

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

The D3200 has received a number of excellent reviews for quality, clarity, features and price. I have always used Nikon for one major reason: lens interchangeability. Almost all Nikon lenses, from early film 35mm through the most modern DSLR, will fit just about any modern Nikon body. Some of the earlier lenses require that you shoot in manual mode, which is probably what you have been doing with your old 35mm camera all along.

The Canon cameras are fine instruments, like Nikon, but with one important flaw: the Canons, model to model, quite often lack lens interchangeability. Nuff said. I will stick to the Nikon DSLR because of this.

My only exception is: I will choose the Canon SX50 bridge camera over the comparable Nikon P520 bridge, because lens interchangeability is not a factor. To boot, I understand from the reviews that the Canon produces equal or superior results, and the SX50 body incorporates more useful features.
