Detailed fur, slobber in his mouth, looking up it's nose, focus on the eyes...these are extraordinary. But bear has lost its "cuteness quotient". Distance between lens and fur is not far enough, I'd think.
The fur has tendency to look oversharpened when in focus, especially if the animal is wet.Close ups of Black bears also confuse the exposure and focus due to too much dark and no contrast.Black bear facial features usually blend into the rest of the face so on many occasions you end up with a bear who has "no eyes" etc. and the face looks flat.
As for the "cuteness quotient" Black bear cubs win hands down. But with adults it is a different story because they stink and may have tape worms coming out of their behinds.Definitely a yechhhh factor.Thanks.
