Helping the US Become a 3rd Class Nation

If this is any indication of where our priorities lie, it is no wonder we let politicians dictate our lives and are becoming a 3rd rate nation while India and China run us down.

US Map of the Highest Paid Public Employees by State

The only way I could get it to post was to make it a download. Please click on download and it will open as a word file.

To me, this is so obviously wrong minded that I will argue with no one responding to it. Just state your opinion. I have stated mine and it is not going to change. Have at it folks.

They get paid the most because they make the schools and states insane amounts of money. If college deans made money for the state, then they would be paid in kind. That goes for all public employees.

The fans demand winners and to get winners, the schools have to hire the best and pay them accordingly. If the schools slip and don't win, attendance goes down, buying goes down, and tax earnings for the state goes down.

So what we are saying is that people who make money for the schools and state are to be paid and those that don't, get the least amount available. That is why teaching science is a low paying job, but teaching boys how to maul one another and throw inflated pig skins down the field gets the teacher millions. And that seems to work for a whole lot of people. We have our priorities after all.

Guess it shows where most priorities lie unfortunately.
Appreciate the post.

These are public employees? How come? I thought sports was private enterprise???

One possible interpretation of the map is that sports managers are highly paid.

Another possible interpretation is that school teachers are not highly paid as such are not highly valued.

That’s an easy one. Athletic departments make universities large sums of money and the better the team the more fans show up and the more money they make. Think about the revenue a football team brings the school, 70,000 fans dropping an average of $100 a pop in ticket and concession purchases then add the amount retailers pay for use of logos and the dollars sporting goods companies pay the schools for wearing their gear. Add the advertising done at games the money made for going to post season bowl games and on and on. If you go to a science fair it’s free admission and 10 people show up and the school pays the expenses and loses money. It’s economics, hell even high schools make money on their athletic programs.

Looking at revenues strictly from the gate isn't really where all the money lies. There is the merchandising, non-athelete students are drawn to a BIG college "lifestyle". Rooting for the home team is a big part of it as well as the notoriety and advertising, don't ignore the Alumnus returning gifts... Get a decent athletic program(s) running well, and the resulting spirit both on and off campus, and you'll have the money coming in from all over. A lot of this money goes for all sorts of improvements and facilities and staff for non-atheletic programs on campus. The Mens Football and Basketball teams pay for all the other athletic programs. It goes on and on and benefits EVERYBODY. It all hinges around hiring the person who can lead this sort of company, gather the right team. The good ones get what is needed to keep them. They don't produce and they get to go elsewhere. They cal it capitalism. Having someone worry about what they are making without considering what they produce... deciding that they should be paid what a janitor makes- is socialism.

And then we wonder why high school graduates who apply to colleges can't read. With those kind of goals it is no wonder we are becoming a 3rd world nation.

Question: How does one graduate from high school not being able to read? You seem to suggest the problems start well before college. Maybe we should be looking at our local grade schools passing students on to the middle schools before they're ready. Shouldn't one be able to read before they get beyond the third grade?

Pepper you are correct, since the federal government took control of the schools from the local school boards our education system has had a steady downfall.

This should not create any great alarm. Revenue production will always produce higher salaries than non-revenue producing fields of endeavor. You don't teach to get rich. Actually, you don't coach to get rich, either, but sometimes it works out that way for the best ones. Keep the Wolverines on TV and well into the NCAA playoffs (like last year), and the revenues more than offset the coach's salary. John Beilein may make good money now, but he started coaching community college, then NAIA, then Div. II before he got to Div. I. He paid his dues.
