Corrupt Memory Card

Yesterday I took dozens of photos at my granddaughter's birthday party. They were all shot on a Nikon D7000 using a Maxell 16gb memory card. Everything looked fine and I printed off a couple of photos. Later in the day I unsuccessfully tried to access images and a "lacking marker"message appeared on my computer. Now it appears that all picltures have been lost and the card shows as being empty. I'm pretty certain I didn't accidentally re-format the card, but information now shows the card as empty.
Any ideas of the cause and does anyone know of any way that the missing photos can be recovered?

Google Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery for an inexpensive card recovery program. It works great.

There are free programs that will let you recover whatever is there. I accidently reformatted a card a few days ago. Using one these programs I found I could recover everything painlessly.

The links are in the thread of a few days ago because someone here gave me the link. The only thing I recall about the thread is that it had "SD Card" in it.

The one I used had a funny name: "Zero assumption recovery". It is for recovering full hard drives also. They charge for that capability but the photo recovery option is free.

Good luck!

Check your hard drive and see if they were down loaded to it. Just put in one of the numbers of the pictures and then search. See if it pulls it and rest of hidden pictures. Past forum suggested that to find missing pictures. If works for that, check and see if they were down loaded and saved to hard drive. Never know, may get lucky. Also it suggested trying to restore with Picaso. Good luck.

Thank you for your suggestion, Gidgette. I'll try it out. I did find some photos that I had already been working on in Photoshop but the majority of the photos were missing. Also I did check with Ritz Photo and they want $39.95 to try to resurrect the photos but no guarantee of course. I know my wife will be very happy if we are able to recover the granddaughter's party photos. Thanks again.

Hi fotoluvr!
I had a very similar issue recently and was almost pulling my hair out of my head. Even the camera wouldn't read it! I looked online for any help and found out that on the side of your memory card is a small slider. It needs to be pushed all the way up. I think I may have put it in the computer at an angle or something which caused the slider to move down. Check that before you spend any money. I hope that works for you!!

Hi bk563,

Try Picasa, its free. Like above info to slide the tab on the side of SD card, try it both ways. Up and/or down. Can't hurt, just don't try to erase while testing it out. Also see advertising above under the heading Corrupt memory card. Free trial=long enought to try to recover photos. LOL

I hope you can recover your images, but for future reference, your D7000 has TWO card slots and can be set to use the second slot as backup. The chance of two cards failing is pretty remote. Use it - you paid for that feature!
