Capture NX2 Problem

I bought a new MacBook Air laptop to take on an African Safari next month. I tried to transfer my NX2 software and ran into a brick wall. Since the new laptop never had a previous version of NX2 installed on it, the update from the Nikon site would not work. I have the original disc and the key code but it won't load with Mountain Lion. I called and found out that they do not even have an update that will work on any Mac using the Mountain Lion 10.8.4 OSX. Can't believe they are so far behind, Mountain Lion has been out for at least a year? They will not provide an estimate when it will be available. Can this really be true or did I get someone at Nikon blowing smoke?

I have an iMac with OS X 10.8.4 and it is running nx2 just fine. I am using nx2 version 2.7.6 and have no trouble on my iMac. My Macbook pro is running OS x 10.7.5 and nx2 ver. 2.8.0. You can go to the Nikon support page and get the version 2.8.0. nx2 and download it.

As of June, 2013, Capture NX2's latest version is 2.4.3. (Jethro, I think you're using the free version, View NX, which is on its version 2.7.6. Correct me if I'm off base.)

I bought a new iMac in February running OSX 10.8.4 and my Capture NX2 version 2.4.2 works great! Call the support department with your key code dilemma. The person I talked to in spring was very helpful.

I just know that nx came with the camera. I had nx set up to get all the updates automatically and it updated to nx2 about a week after I put nx on the iMac. The Macbook Pro updated within 2 hours of the original install. This all happened in December when I got my D3000 and did the original installs on both computers.

Yes, a View NX disc comes free with new Nikons. Capture NX2, the full version, costs $139. Before you buy it, you can give it a test drive: http://www.capturenx.com/en/index.html

Wiselee has an older version of Capture NX2. By the way, I shoot NEF, so I've really come to appreciate NX2's ability to "speak Nikon." I use it alongside Photoshop CS5 and the entire NIK Efex suite.

The name escapes me, but Google bought the company that wrote Capture - maybe that's the problem

Yes, it is Capture NX2. Here is a quote from the email that I received after my call yesterday:
"Thank you for contacting Nikon. I am happy I was able to assist you today. As per conversation, we currently do not have a software compatible with the Mac 10.8.4. If you have any additional questions, please contact Nikon Technical Support."

If that is true then they have nothing to sell to buyers of new Mac computers? Baloney!

Thanks for all the responses from UHH members!

I believe you are thinking of Nik Software, not the same as Nikon.

Thanks!

Capture NX is a photography software program developed by Nik Software in partnership with Nikon

When I purchased the Nikon Capture NX2 I was using a PC. The program was PC/Mac compatible. So when I switched over to Mac I could not install it so I contacted Nikon technical support to inquire about this and what to do. They responded in a couple of days to inform me that I had an older version and needed an update. I was 2 versions behind. They sent me update links to download and it has been working since. Now at that time I did not have Mountain Lion but have since updated to that version and my NX2 still works. Also, my wife bought a new imac and she installed NX2 on her new Mac with no problems. The update I recieved was the 2.3.2 version. I would contact Nikon technical support and explain your situation. It will probably take a couple of days before that get back to you. I hope this helps. Dave

I have resolved the problem, even though the Nikon NX2 site says you must have the previous version of the software already installed, I was able to download version 2.4.3 and install it. It accepted my Key code from version 2.0 to go beyond the trial version. It would be helpful if Nikon employees at the NX2 service center knew something about their software. They told me Capture NX2 software wouldn't work on Mountain Lion 2.8.4 OSX!

Thanks UHH members!

Yes, I was pretty upset when Nikon told me the software wouldn't work on Mtn. Lion. as I bought the MackBook Air to take on a Safari next month.

Thanks!
