Won't it be wonderful when ALL TV stations are not in the English language, in the US? I think so. That way most of our grandchildren would not be watching? TV sets will be much cheaper. We can choose whatever we want on DVD/CD.

 or :(

You choose. We can have Hoppa Longo Cassidy in ?
The Longo Rangio in ?

Zorro in French.

Pardon my spelling. I did mean to be El Stupidio about this.

  :-o

Not to be the one to turn the table but there was nothing like a good 'ol "Spagetti Western" in English...LOL ... and you would take all the nostalgia away from some great Godzilla movies if the words were in sync...It was part of growing up when I was a kid.
Don't get me wrong... I hate shelling out $100.00/month for paid programming, infomercials, Et al. I saw Star Wars on one of the ""Premium Channels"" last week??? What is it ... thirty years old?

Cable has got NOTHING on broadcast TV.
Of course if you live in the boondocks you may not get anything but check this out.
I am 75 miles from the Metropolis. So I only get 3 local channels with a modern antennae very nice as I said but,
if I run my antennae up the maximum aloud 50ft (air field 1 mile away)
I get at least35 Channels :-P
Because it is the size of a small book and weighs less it is very easy to do. It comes with a NINE VOLT ADAPTER that plugs into the wall and juices up the reception to the point that I am picking up CBS NBC ABC PBS and the list goes on I can get no less the 35 channels. it is a mix of around 50% English, 30% Spanish, and 20% other.
They are all SO! High Def. 1080p
That when I see somebody watching cable I wonder it there is not something wrong with there service.
Plus with cable half the screen is covered ALL THE TIME due to popups and advertising within the frame the entire screen around the edges but that stuff don't come on broadcast channels. AND ITS FREE :-p
It is just wide screen 1080P from corner to corner of your screen.

Hanbdgunner,

You got that right. I especially like to read subtitles but after a while, my eyes don't like multitasking - reading and watching. There are some gems out there. In one subtiltled movie, "bedroom" was translated as "restroom"

You gotta love it when the translator might not a full grasp of the language that he is translating.

Most TV shows are one long commercial with infrequent interruptions by programming

Interesting thing is that there are fewer foreign language newspapers now than in the past, fewer radio stations too, etc. We never were a nation of one official language and we should not be!

Wisconsin schools taught in German because the population was primarily German and that was the language used.

NYC schools taught in a multiple of languages.

Of course if you find someone using a language you don't understand threatening, then perhaps you should move to a part of the country where only your language is spoken!

20-30 years ago the FCC rules stated that there could be no commercials any louder then TV broadcast. There were supposed no more than 3 commercials and station break and then 3 more commercials.

An uncle was a radio engineer and then a TV engineer in the early
60's.

What rules to we have today :?:

The agency I worked at for 14 years had a recording studio. The volume of commercials was set consistent mid point on the volume dial- it waved back and forth over this point, but the average was under it. Any higher and you'd get distortion, any lower and the low parts would be difficult to hear. The problem is how the actual content is being played back at- they don't always play back a movie at optimum volume... Take Casataway, it is much louder in the plane crash then it is on the beach. You would never complain about the volume of a commercial during the plan crash- but may jump out of your seat with the very same commercial during the beach scene.

I never complain about the commercials anymore- its the station playback guys you have a gripe about.

AS far as the number of commercials, we had a visiting french student that had very broken English. Even so, she made an incredulous mention of all the commercials!

This from a service we pay through the nose for. It was one thing when we got the shows for free... but we are all fools for letting them charge us to watch infomercials and some of the absolute crap they put on- even the good shows are interrupted with 10 minutes of commercials at a time.

They should be paying us for the opportunity of seeing the commercials... hey- a business plan in that!

Or THEY should move the hell back to the country that speaks their language if they refuse to learn English!

Maybe that's what we need, like the Navajo lingo in WWII.
The other side will not know what we are talking about. Lets bring back the Navajo Talk. Or, another tribal language. Get some more of these no-nothings in gov and completely confuse the people from the ME, China and Russia. :-(

Of course we could always go to WANNA, GUNNA, HAFTA, YOU KNOW,
etc. Code words that none of the culture of today know about.

Give new meaning to LOL, and all the texting code words.
