Okay. I cant wait until this weeks photo challenge ends to ask this question - I must ask it now. There is a submission titled Oak Tree with acorns. I have oak trees and I have acorns. And I have NEVER seen anything like this. Can someone please answer my question: Whaaaaat?!
With a few drops of super glue anything is possible.
Thanks for pointing it out. I'm with you-never saw one before and don't see how it is possible.

I think (hope) this will get you there. If not, I don't know how to provide the direct link. It is an entry in this week's Weekly Photo Challenge.
Thanks. I wonder what kind of animal put them there. I've never seen that before.
EDIT: Acorn woodpecker.

Thanks, Jerryc41. You are a treasure trove of information, and quick, too. St3v3M had said "woodpeckers", but I didn't understand how that addressed anything except the holes. Can't tell you how much time I spent googling this. But, I was doing the search for tree information.
Hubby says if the woodpeckers around here start doing that, he'll shoot'em (and not with a camera). He thinks it's one of the nastiest looking things he's ever seen. I found it quite peculiar!
Now I'm curious to see which part of the country the entrant is in.
Google research: Acorn woodpecker indigenous in American southwest, will places acorns in holes drilled in wood; bark. fencing. siding, etc. Some trees may have up to 50,000 holes drilled in them, each filled with an acorn in autumn.

The habitat map shows a really narrow range. I guess most Hogs were bumfuzzled by this!

Those woodpeckers will really be upset if you go and glue their food to the pantry!

STVest,
It looks to me like the photographer was trying to show the difference between the coarse texture of the Oak bark, and the smoothness of the Acorn skin. Not a real good illustration.
Another example would be to take a young 16 year old girl, her Mom, a Yellow Rose, out to a park with Oak Trees. Place the Teenager up close to the Oak tree, and capture the soft smoothness of her complexion in contrast to the coarse texture of the Oak Bark. The Yellow Rose can complement her Blond Hair.
Take a second image of Mom as a gift for the opportunity to photograph daughter.

PS You can use the same technique with old barn doors, fence posts, and other natural objects that have aged well.

I think it's a very interesting photo with lots of texture. I just couldn't figure out what the heck was going on or how the acorns got where they are.
Maybe if you're from an area where this happens you would find the photo mundane. But for my household members, none of whom has ever seen this before, it is quite attention-getting.
