The math is killing me.
I use LR and to export at 300 dpi is easy. But when my husband uses Picasa it only says pixels. If someone want to print at 300 dpi how do I export it from Picasa. How many pixels = 300 dpi? I know it has something to do with math but I don't get it. duah :?

God I need a strong coffee, just got a head ache.
I have no idea good luck (I use pixels)
you are aware you can print right in picassa. just go to the properties of the photo and change the printer. (right click on the photo and it will open up)

Yes but the photos are going to a magazine to print. and they asked for 300dpi

You didn't say that in the original post
"dpi" is pixels per inch. It seems the answer might be found by what Picasa means by using the term pixels. I don't use Picasa so I am not going to guess.

It really isn't a dpi to pixel answer. The size of the picture you want to print (4x6, 8x10, etc.)
First read here

DPI is dots per inch- that happens on the printer end.
Almost all printers output in dots of ink.
PPI is pixels per inch - your camera only puts out pixels, not dots.
http://www.steves-digicams.com/knowledge-center/coming-to-terms-with-dpi-ppi-and-size.htmlI'll bet they are asking the output to be 300ppi, not dpi.
That means if you send them a 5 x 7 image at 300ppi, the pixel dimensions would be 1500 x 2100.
Ok let's try something else. Does anyone have experience with exporting from Picasa.
Thank you for your help. I read the info. I'm going to guess I'll send it by just leaving it at automatic. I was hoping that it would tell me the quality of that choice. But it doesn't. HoHum
have you tried to check the menu on your printer?
Figuring out how to deal with pixels and DPI for yourself is easy. Explaining to someone else how to deal with it on their particular system is the hard part.
If you get the image out (export) of Picasa, and onto your desktop, then you can handle it in many different ways. To prepare images for print publication by a printer with a printing press, I sometimes use 2 or 3 programs to meet all the requirements set up by the printer.
I use Irfanview to deal with sizing and DPI. It's a free program:
http://www.irfanview.com/You can do a lot of things with this program, but I won't even begin to tell you how. The best way is just to experiment on your own.
Good luck!
