I was sitting in the garden the other night with a glass of red wine when a bat flew over, the wife said "you never have your camera with you when you need it,"... I dont know about you other hogs, but I wouldnt have a clue how to photo a bat in flight at night...... What is the most difficult thing you have tried to photograph and failed....?.....

I can't get a selfie to save my life. I just hate being in front of the camera it comes out in every image I take.

Northern lights....
According to my sun, "this was the night" so I sat on the beach in the middle of the night for almost 3 hours, nothing.

I agree with dooragdragon. I have given up moonshots as they are simply a source of frustration.

A bat, at night, and as I recall wine was involved. But I have more failed Lightning attempts than most anything else that I can recall. Lots of storm clouds, no lightning.

My daughters when they were age 14 to 18.

Trying to photograph them was difficult too.

Again, a bat. I have been trying for years, but all I can get of wild bats are swarms. I have taken several shots of individual bats kept by a lady who provides lifelong foster care for bats unable to return to the wild. One is blind, another was mauled (probably by a coyote), another lost a wing (I believe to a wire). She also had three young pups that were orphaned (probably) before they were weaned; I spent an entire evening shooting them. Regrettably, they did not survive in spite of Corky's around-the-clock care. All my pictures of those bats, along with copyright and all other rights have been turned over to a local bat rescue organization. Hopefully, this next spring when the local colony of Brazilian (Mexican) Free Tailed Bats returns to its local brood location, I will be able to get some better pictures of the local bats and/or of the foster bats. Please indulge me by letting me express a heartfelt "Well Done" to NorCal Bats.

I have a very hard time with birds in flight, tracking is my main issue and the only way to fix the problem is try try try!

Without a doubt and without the wine, it has to be... "A Ghost In A Snowstorm"...Kidding aside, it has to be my yellow lab. Can not get him to stand or sit still long enough to get a good photo.
