I have been using PS CS4 since it came out. I always use matte black ink on my Epson 2200 printer (It's old too) but has always produced wonderful prints. Also I used the calibrating system built into my Imac. I recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard and the colors are terrible. The original settings no longer produce a good image.

Try re-calibrating the monitor. Perhaps the upgrade reset something.
I have tried calibrating several times with the calibration on the Mac. I think I will call Apple tomorrow and have them help me. I'm sure I am missing something somewhere. Thank you for your suggestion.
I just noticed where you are. At least you have an Apple store nearby!
And you...are in Western Md?

If not, we could make it one!
Anyone from Allegheny, Garrett, or Washington County?
Ginny - Did you get your problem solved?
Yes, I did, just today. Called Adobe and was told that since I had just upgraded my system to Snow Leopard I had to uninstall CS4 and reinstall it. Once done, still looked bad but after fiddling with the color settings for awhile I got it back to "perfect." Thank you for asking. I am now a happy camper.
You were correct in that the upgrade upset the colors
