new Sigma 150-500. Early morning low light. Was able to sneak up on this guy just as he was taking off. Taken at 500mm. ISO 400, Shutter speed 1/800 and 6.3 stop.

Are you looking for C&C or are you just really happy with this image of a Great Egret flying away?

Just happy with the results. That was a jump out of the car and shoot the bird deal. Controlled shots should show some better results. I think they are decent for on the fly shots, if you click the download

On a technical level, very good images. But I would try again the next morning, get even closer to the subject, and really nail it on the compositional level. Go for an engaging image worthy of entering photo competitions and printing out large-scale for the wall - you have both the right lens and necessary skills to capture that magical, unforgettable image!

I like wildlife photography and I mainly see two major obstacles, timing (being in the right place at the right time) and cooperation. (animals are more prone to not cooperate than children). IMHO

It definitely takes patience with a little luck thrown in. I have found that getting to a location early in the morning, where I've seen the birds on a regular basis is a good idea. Then sit down and wait, let the birds come to you. If they get used to you being there, they will not pay much attention and will go on with their normal day.
Good shots for a quick snap

So true.

Domesticated animals and animals in the zoo are fairly easy to photograph, but the challenge of capturing shy animals in the wild can be so much more rewarding! Or frustrating, if it doesn't work out. By the time you set up a tripod, changed out the lens or moved to a better vantage point, they are already gone.

Hand held. That is a pretty heavy lens body combo.

I have that lens, and it is very sharp, especially on a tri-pod. For hand held those are very good shots. I find the OS to be very good. Have fun and post some more shots when you get them.
