My username is ziastars. Photography is my passion, am a novice, self taught with lots to learn, hence my membership here. I am in the market for a good camera that won't break the bank, around 1K, need to know what is recommended and why, for a hobbyist with ambition.
Any and all input is appreciated

Welcome to the Hog :) Seems we have a little in common...like alot of other people in here. As far as camera's....oh thats just the begining
Welcome to the forum.
If you're in the market for a new camera, now is the best time to buy as everyone should be having their holiday sales and you should be able to get a good deal.
Before you are inundated with suggestions on which brand or model to purchase. Take a trip to your local camera store and hold various camera's in your hands. Which one feels best, to you. Is it too heavy, too light, check out the menu controls, easy to get to, easy to understand.
What type of shooting will you mainly focus on, will you need a good zoom. Put a zoom lens on the camera, is it too heavy, will you be able to shoot hand held or will you now need a tripod or monopod and is that important to you.
Remember, you are the one that will be carrying the camera around for hours at a time, no matter how great the camera may be, if you're not comfortable using it, you will be very disappointed.

Best . . .advice . . ever . . .
One more thing? Try out the viewfinder - you will be using it for 90% of your shots - it should be bright and sharp, and look good to you.
Thanks very much for the input...have decided on the Canon EOS Rebel T3i, they are having a good offer on it now at best buy, can return it if I don't like it. They give you 30 days...pretty good deal. I will have a reg 18-55 mm lens and a telephoto, bag, filter, extra battery and charger...so looks like I will be pretty good to go.
I agree about the view finder, thanks again!
Thanks for all the great input, much appreciated!
Appreciate all the input, thank you!
Ziastars, it's refreshing to see the OP (original poster) come back and show appreciation for the responses. So many times, I never see the OP show back up on the thread to get the info they requested.
Thanks!

Again, thank you, am appreciative of people taking the time and interest to reply to me. I am excited about getting my camera, ordering it today from Best Buy. Have to explain, we live about 1 1/2 hours from the closest mall, best buy etc....we live in the mountains and have very limited retail around us! Yaaay....glad we have internet! :)

Welcome Judy, I'm new as well!
I love the following quote...and "shoot" by it..sharing what you see through your own vision and feelings is key, it could be
anything that is interesting....it depends on you after all.
"It is not important to have fast digital cameras or special lenses . . What is important is to have one's own vision of the world transmitted through images." Sandro Santioli

Judy, you can't be very far from Michigan City!! I was up there in the earlier part of this year, and my only regret was that I didn't have time to stay longer. Hit the dunes!! I never got to see enough of them.
