Is it just me or do others also find that there's to much asking about something that can be found on the net in two seconds with google? Are we getting to lazy to look for somethings ourselves. You see people posting what camera ,what lens, what card, what this and that but they know how to put there names on their pics.Seems to me if they are so proud and good to do so and call themselves photographers they should be able to answer these simple questions themselves. I can see asking questions about lightning.post processing, different ways to set up shots etc. but if your good enough to watermark and profess to be a photographer you should be able to at least know about the basics.JMO. and I hope I didn't offend to many .

When I first joined I thought I might do a quick How To Google post and kill off the site as it always seemed so easy to look up an answer to someone's question. In time I had a question of my own and realized, while some questions can be Googled, most are looking for actual experience, opinions and ideas from the members here. It does not stop me from playing Google Says as that can be helpful, but now I think about it more and if I have any wisdom to depart I add that too.

I agree, is a difference when asking have you used what is your opinion, did you like it, but the majority of the questions can be answered via google or some search engine.

Get used to it. For every novice that 'gets the picture', three more join UHH.

I believe that people who share the common interest want some interaction, sharing ideas and experience. Indeed, it's so easy to Google any question you have, and have answers immediately. But it is also fun that somebody can explain that to you or show the results of their work, or give encouragement, or critic your work. This is why people join such forums and clubs.

On the other side, I have seen great conversations start with a simple question. Most are done and over, but every now and then it sparks something and Wham!

Agree. Nothing like personal interaction!

The google thing is true but after awhile on here you find a certain trust in the people of UHH and it is good to hear their opinions. It often feels like getting help from people you trust rather than people you don't know.

Pro's and cons to both sides of the coin and I agree with the wanting interaction rather then google it .
All though some do tend to get under my skin a bit .

I agree about critic and showing your work for hints to make them better and so forth.(which I have done quite a few times and thank everyone that helped) but come on , if I'm making a lens purchase I do my own research. !st on line and then a trip to the camera store to test them myself.Take some shots with my camera and lens in question ,take the picture home ,download and process and make my own decision. Same with all my gear and programs. I'm far from pro but I like to make my own decisions as far as equipment by research and trying them out before purchase.

Exactly, like should I format my card when I use a different camera. What really gets my goat is they consider themselves photographer but don't know the simplest things about photography.I'm not saying that I do but I don't profess to be one either.More of a student, and will always be learning.I hope.

I think it's due to a combination of laziness and self entitlement encouraged by coddling parents that wipe their butts past age thirty. I don't encourage this behavior but instead point the way for the OP to actually find, read, understand and learn something. Unfortunately there are ample numbers of bleeding hearts on this forum that will take you to task if you don't spend the time researching and composing a step by step solution for the poor idjut. Of course they rarely offer any solutions themselves but instead harangue anyone who doesn't coddle them. Right dooradragon?

Having helped some friends newly interested in photography, I have learned that "we" are always making assumptions about what "they" should already know. If one Googles something, they can get very general, very specific, or very biased information. They come here in a much more trusting mode. Yep, some of them seem clueless, but we were all there at one point and have walked that path: some many years ago and some rather recently. Some folks don't think the way you might and this wonderful world of cameras, tripods, software, etc., can be daunting. A slap on the head does not promote learning.

Sometimes it amazes me that after a few "are you kidding me? why don't you use Search" comments, a kind and understanding soul will come along and give wonderful information that is just right: not too much, not too little.

Ever notice how politely folks get guided to the Macro thread or the night photog stuff..... pleasant AND instructive. Nikonian 72 is amazing with that and his manner does not frizzle into impatience with those who have No Clue and are newbies.

There are parts of this site that are like a poorly written soap opera, but the golden goodies from the best make up for that. There is always more to learn here. :-D

It IS the internet, after all. (Well, sometimes a slap on the head does promote learning. )

That is why this is such a fun site. What would we be doing if we were not posting here.
