Hoosier Tomatoes, Home grown

Going down a country road and stopped to take a photo of a "Tomatoes" sign. I love tomatoes straight from the garden. The homemade stand drew me in and I met "Bob." We talked of jobs, unions, politics and southern Indiana history. He provides tomatoes for everyone that lives past him on the road. He gives to those in need and sets aside some for those who want to can them. In his 80's, his property, home and garden were neat and trim. No waste and plenty of "do it yourself." He hadn't picked yet that day so was a little low on tomatoes. If he's not home, you weigh, sack and put your money in the box. I could have been in the 1950's but was glad to see that trust still exists in Indiana in 2013. Be sure to download the original "Weigh, sack, pay" and check out: paint, nails, magic marker numbers, the garden and more.

Got to love the rural folk ( I used to live in Fort Wayne).
Family had a cabin upstate NY, local gardeners had boxes for the cash. pick weigh and pay. Best fresh produce!

Gorgeous tomatoes. I'll bet they taste as good as they look.

They sure did! I love the yellow ones and red and fried green ones! I started canning this eve and will be canning tomorrow. Fresh, organic and about as safe and tasty as you can get! Yum! Thanks for looking!

Nothing is better than a fresh tomato grown in good black soil!

Went back up to Martinsville and took copies of the photos to Bob. I thought he was going to cry. He was so appreciative and couldn't believe how great his tomatoes looked. He had some stripes, which are still non acidic but are a yellow with red strips and turn into a blush. They are sweet and very flavorful. He gave me some of those. Really sweet man. These are the times when photography has such great, deep rewards.
