It must be common for these guys to damage the lenses on those compound eyes. After all, they fly at 'breakneck' speed, around and through endless branches, etc. as they try to avoid things that are trying to eat them. I have some closeups like this with large rectangular sections damaged.
Still, you've got a very nice pic.
Much of the light-colored lines seen are debris. I have been known to rinse the face of dragons & damsels before macro-photography.

Very nice shot.!! I think it is dust and grass too. Doug is very cool isn't he. Who would ever give a bug a bath and then do a portraiture of him? :):):)

This has noting at all to do with macro, but what you just said reminded me; 2 months ago, I went to the ER with something in my eye; (giving me a fit) 3 hours, 6 RN's, 2 MD's, and $2,400 later they retrieved the "culprit".......1 eye lash ! (Thank God for Medicare!)
