Yesterday I was shopping for some camera equipment (tripod and other stuff) and asked the clerk "Is there any discount for camera club members?"
She came back with, Yes, 10% or lowest recorded sale price of the item. This was at London Drugs, (which is in Canada) they have a pretty fair selection of cameras, lenses, and related items. No B&H or Adorama but enough to keep me interested. I ended up buying a Manfrotto tripod (saved 10%) and a Manfrotto monopod. I saved 11% off the monopod (lowest sale price).
Although I am a card caring member of the Shuswap Photo Arts Club in Salmon Arm BC the clerk did not request proof of membership or even ask which camera club. Now here is the kicker, my purchase was in Kamloops (120km or 70 miles) west of Salmon Arm. A few months back I was in Kelowna (100km or 60 miles south) and purchased some camera equipment from Lens and Shutter. I asked "Any discount for camera club members?" and clerks response was 10% and again no proof or questions was asked. The shocker this time was when I asked the question the clerk already had my item rung in the cash register but he insisted on cancelling the order and redoing it with the discount.
10% discount also works at our Salmon Arm camera/pharmacy store but their supplies are very limited as photography equipment is only a sideline for this store.
I guess the bottom line is if you are a member of a club (or not) it won't hurt to ask for a discount.
I believe (I think) Adorama has said on this forum that they will give UHHers a discount not sure about B&H. Both companies are first class in my books.

My philosphy in this day and age is that life is very competitive right across the board - same goes for businesses - so ask for a discount; you've got nothing to loose. My wife and I recently moved and decided to totally refurnish our house. Virtually every shop we went into we got a good discount just by asking because businesses know they have to compete. We saved around $10,000 on furniture alone this way. Even when I get my printing/framing done at a professional lab I ask for a discount; especially if I have more that one job submission. Ask and you will very often get.
Thanks for the info, will definately use it next time I buy gear.
