Hi,

Maybe somebody can help me..i would like to shoot some closeups..not neccessarily true Macro. i am looking for extension tubes for my Nikon D5100. i have a 18-55mm and a 55-200mm lens. The camera has 7 contacts. My questions are:
1.Do the extension tubes have to have 7 contacts to match my camera?
2. Once attached do i need to set anything up in my camera to have them work?
3.Has anyone ever used Vellos?

Thanks

Hi Peanut,
I have a set of Kenko tubes that I have used with my D3100 that work fine (12, 20, and 38mm DG tubes). They do have 7 contacts and while it's manual focus only on the D3100, they do auto focus my lenses with my D50. the attached photo was taken with the D3100 and 18-55mm kit lens.

A few sprigs of rosemary taken with D3100, Kenko tubes, and 18-55mm lens.

Peanut,
I believe that a set of Vello Auto-Extension Tubes (for Nikon F mount) will work just fine for you. I own a set of Kenkos for my Nikon. Read more here:

Prove it! Post a few close-up or macro photos.

Traditionally, close-up photography is defined as 1:10 magnification (1/10th life-size) up to near life-size; and macro-Photography is defined as 1:1 magnification (life-size), up to 10:1 magnification (10x life-size).
