Hi everyone. I just joined the forum and thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Dewey Barnes, from Helena, Montana. I have been taking "pictures" since 1958, but have only been taking "photographs" for about 12 years, since I got into digital photography. I'm not a pro, but I do get a few calls for shoots, which I do for free. My gear consists of an Olympus E-510, with various lenses including a 14-54mm; 70-300mm; fixed 50mm; macro adapter, Oly flash, Manfroto monopod and Vanguard Tracker II tripod plus misc. other items and gear. I am an all around photographer, not specializing in any one type of photos. I like to take them all, from portraits to landscapes, including bugs, birds, flowers, big and little critters, and anything that holds still long enough or doesn't move too fast for me to shoot. I use the Corel photo editing software when needed. I'm retired, have been happily married for 54 years, and like to travel in our motorhome, with my trusty Oly and my wife and Schnauzer at my side. I'm looking forward to being a positive and contributing member of your great forum. Thanks for allowing me the opportunity.

Welcome to our merry little band Dewey. I use Corel's Photo Impact Pro version also for post processing. Look forward to seeing some of your stuff.

Thanks Rocco. I use Corel's Paintshop Pro Photo X4. I find that its much more intuitive and easier to use than the other leading program, and does everything I could possibly need, and at a much lower price than Photoshop.
I have 145 photos posted on the Photoshare page if you are interested. Here's a link directly to my photos:

Welcome Dewey! You are a lucky man as I would love to live in Montana. I worked across the entire state in the mid 60s when I was employed by Northern Pacific Railroad's Mechanical Systems Engineering Department. I spent many a night on Dry Creek Gulch in Helena. You will find this site has a very remarkable cross section of extremely knowledgeable people who know photography and are willing to assist anyone seeking help! Good luck with your motorhome trips and I hope to be out in Yellowstone again this summer. Last year was the 1st year I missed in 13 years but I had open heart surgery and they would not let me travel even tho I felt great!

Thanks neighbor! Colorado is close enough to be a neighbor I guess. It looks like we have a couple of things in common. Keep in touch, maybe we'll bump into each other when you come up to Yellostone this summer. BTW, I looked for photos of yours on the photoshare page, and couldn't find any. Did I miss something?

No, you didn't miss anything, I just haven't posted anything. I feel like my work is not up to par for this site so I haven't put anything out there yet. Here is a shot of the results in 2009 with a nice one from Yellowstone Lake. The other 2 are the last 2 Goldwings I had and would love to be able to tour Yellowstone in either one of those but since the open heart surgery on May 9th I guess I won't be able to do that now. Hope to bring the Bayliner up about the 3rd week of June and catch a few more. We will keep in touch and maybe meet for a few hours of trying to CATCH ONE if you are up to that! Thanks for the reply and have a great day!
Dave

You might be surprised on how well your photos compare on this site. There are, indeed, some great photos. But there are also those that are not so great. I say post your shots and see what response you get. You can also get some good advice in taking better ones. Thats the purpose of this site.

I have a 20ft. Seaswirl Spyder which is a great fishing boat as well (photo posted). The local Hauser and Canyon Ferry lakes are good Rainbow and German Brown fisheries. You might consider a meet there also.

Forgot to mention that Walleye fishing is excellent also, and they are great eating. Better than trout some say.

Dewey: I am one of those that think walleye are better eating than trout. My dad always said that the walleye is the best tasting fish on earth and he was a Norwegian whos father was a Norway based celestial navigator on a fishing ship! I always thought he knew what he was talking about. How far out are the lakes from Helena (all my maps are in the van)? May need to do some re-planning of the trip to squeeze in 2 more lakes!

Hauser is about 15 miles and Canyon Ferry is about 20 miles from Helena. From my house, about 8 and 12 respectively. There is also some good kokanee salmon fishing in the area. Do you have an RV?
