Does anyone have 1st hand experence with Paul Buff Einstein 640 Strobes? I am shooting rodeos and barrel races and need more light. I have been shooting without flash. I shoot a Nikon D600/Nikon D7000 with Nikon 70-200 F2.8 VRII.

Excellent products and SUPERB customer service.

You do realize you will be limited to 1/250 shutter speed unless you invest in the Pocket Wizard Flex/TT5 units as triggers that will allow you to utilize the HyperSync capabilities and maybe get up to 1/1000 - maybe a touch higher.

I think right now the Einstein 640 units from Paul Buff at only $500 is incredible technology for a great price.

I have 6 of them. I purchased them over other brands because of the support and short flash duration.

There is really no alternative in this price range for stop action capability in a studio flash head.

Thank you all for your reply. Instead of Pocket Wizard, I was looking at getting Paul Buff's Cyber Commander & CyberSync Transceiver. I'll take a look at the Pocket wizard, is it better?
I know now I am going for a pair Einstein 640 now and increase to 4 lights soon. Specs look great to me. Thanks

I have three whitelightning monolights that I've been using for 20+ years with total reliability. I recommend his products.

Go get it and you will LOVE them. I have 2 Alien Bees and 1 Einstein that I always used as the key light. it just works perfectly.
I used Paul Buff triggers for my lights and have no problem with them at all.
Don't really know what the advantage would be with mini flex as I will be on manual anyway. Why anyone would shoot on auto in a studio I don't know. Creativity comes when all is on manual.
Good luck,
phil b

You don't understand the Mini/Flex. Those are just triggers. Nothing auto about them unless used with the Nikon or Canon Speedlights in which case they work great with the receptive TTL systems. For firing the studio strobes, that is all they do - fire them. With the Einstein units you can control the output, but it is not automatic - you have to change it manually.

There is a "semi-automatic" feature to the PW/Einsteins in which they can be configured to match the aperture as it is changed. So if you stop down on stop the units double the power, etc.

The Cyber Commander will probably save you some money over the Pocket Wizard, while giving you the same capabilities!

I think that is true. The PWs are great when using them cross-platform or mixing speedlights and strobes at the same time.

I have nothing but good about the Buff Cyber Commander system.
