motorcycle touring and photography really do go well together

I travel as much as I can by motorcycle to as many places as possible looking for the photo opp of the day. Landscape, fur, feathers, are all of interest. When dead of winter comes I resort to 4 wheel drive and river walks.

A rank amatur after more than 40 years of taking pictures I am in hopes of improved skills by associating with knowledgeable people like those I have seen here while watching your posts from the shadows.

I like to shoot from the back seat, often while hubby is driving. If you want to post your ride...I started a thread a while back called. Show me your two wheel ride.
Nice shots you got there. Is that doe eating a piece of bread or am I just hungry?

I too shoot from the back seat, you can see so much more and get such a different outlook on things.. Great fun.. Wish we could ride everyday but my husband still works.

Love your shots.. keep posting...

Nice. I love to take pictures of the places I ride. We have seen some beautiful things. We are planning to do Sturges next year. I can't wait. I have a little point n shoot camera right now that works very well but I hope to get something a little better before then. If I decide to ride on the back for the trip I will definitely be getting a more rounded camera. I hope to see an eagle like the one in your shot it's beautiful.

Thanks so much, the Eagle was not a summer trip, dead of winter, about 10 below with ice and snow packed roads so it would be hard to find on a bike trip. I would like to offer one suggestion, from the back seat dont use anything you cant strap to you, just saying.

My point and shoot Sony for the most part takes just as good a picture as my Nikon, particularly of drive by, no time to set up stuff. I would hate to lose it but better it than my Nikon just because of the cost of replacement. The Sony is also a lot easier to carry around in your pocket in a crowd.

Have fun at Sturgis, I did, but would never go again during the event. Prices come down by more than 90% right after and everything is still there to see except for the crowds.

I have a lot of photos taken from the back of my husband's motorcycle. Two years ago I got my license and my own bike; now it's a little harder to get the shots I used to get. BUT I love riding my own; riding and photography are the two most important hobbies I have.

JohnM, I share your interest in motorcycle riding photo ops. In 2000 my wife and I took a three month ride across the USA and back with a Sony Mavica in a pouch on my waste. Mailed floppy discs home by the bushell (only 12 photos to a disk). Very poor quality photos but the camera was state of the art at the time.

Here's a link to our trip if you'd care to check it out: http://grb.smugmug.com/2000/Ride-Across-America

I now have a Nikon D300, which I took on a ride to MT St Helens in Sept. Pics here: http://grb.smugmug.com/2011/Mount-ST-Helens-Ride

John, nice shots. Here are shots of my last 2 rides and I loved viewing the country from the seat of a Goldwing!! Also noticed your eagle shot and I work every year to get an outstanding shot such as yours. The 3rd shot is an eagle taken a couple of weeks ago by my friend over in Delta, CO who shoots a D7000 and got me into Nikon gear.

nice bikes for sure, I had an 1100 but never a 1200 even tho I did ride a couple over the years and I never had a 1500 Wing, I did get an Interstate Valk with a 1500 and what a great bikie. Of course the GL 1800 pictured I got new and traded for Pug with about 80,000 miles. and again great pics. I have been wanting to upgrade to a D7000 but the price is holding me back. I keep watching for a giant sale lol
