Interesting. I've just heard the generic term: flash diffuser. I've learned new today.

A Stoffen-type diffuser is often used inside of a softbox diffuser, to distribute the light more evenly across the larger softbox face.
Quiet useful in speedlight-illuminated macro-photography.
