My significant other and I are taking an escorted tour of Ireland in October. The routing is shown in the map below. I know we will be exposed to all the typical "tourist" sites but I'm hoping some of you "hogs" might have some suggestions as to things we should try to see that are off the beaten path so to speak. Thanks for any suggestions you all may have.

Glenvaugh National Park in Northwest Ireland. Dingle Peninsula in Southwest Ireland. We went on a tour totally in the West in May. It was absolutely wonderful. Also The Burren in southwest was also very interesting. We were on a walking tour. Hiked in Connemara and Killarney National parks were beautiful

That's quite a loop your making. How long is your trip? Be sure to do the pubs especially those with Trad music. I don't see you doing too much on your own with this trip other than the stop overs your making. If you can do the Aran Island you will really enjoy its beautiful ruggedness

Thanks for the info. We will be traveling for 13 days. I'm sure we'll be able to get in a pub or three but, as you point out and I agree, we won't have much time of our own. Hopefully we will have enough downtime in Galway to make our way over to the Aran Islands. Sounds intriguing!

You have it pretty well covered - best bet is to ask the locals in all the places you have earmarked for your planned trip.

A visit to Achill Island and possibly the Arran Islands might be an idea.

You are certainly going to be busy with that itinerary - bear in mind the condition of the roads leave a lot to be desired as an Irish mile is more than twice the normal length.
I am sure you will have a great time and i really envy you!!

Download Google Earth. Type in Dublin Ireland. When you get there you can traverse the whole Ireland or travel the highways from your computer. Walk the streets of Dublin. Great way to plan a trip or to scout your itinerary. Not sure why 2 days in Westport. Small quaint town you can see in 3-4 hours. Take a light rain poncho. Its a wet Country.

I still have all my clothes tailored by Magee's on the square in Donegal Town. In Derry, if your wife is into crockery, go the Belleek factory. If you're into Golf...never miss LaHinch Golf Course in West Clare. Across the road from Bunratty Castle is "Durty Nell's. Get Oyster stew in Guiness in Galway. Get the best fish'n'chips in Killybegs oppoaite the quay. Down South see the miraculous Garnish Island where there are palm trees. In Dublin do NOT MISS Kilmainam Jail!! and a bit below Dublin see Powers Court. When in Kerry, see the Ring of Kerry and take a trap ride in the very early morn---ENJOY and Slainte!!
