Drove the few miles down our road to Indiana's first state park, McCormick's Creek, to do the Bird Hike this am. THe Naturalist had just told us there would probably not be many birds because it was overcast. Then came a couple pointing and saying, "There's an owl over there in that tree." We all took off and needless to say, I was lucky to get a shot before he flew off. It is not a good shot...but it is a shot and even with my unskilled pp, you can identify him. I had to share!

I feel the same as you! I grew up coming to this park and also brought my kids here about everyday of their lives. I rarely do the Naturalist hikes anymore unless its a new one. I think the Naturalist was in shock. He was a young guy, still in college. I've seen a few owls but like you haven't got the shot. There was a great horned owl in our field this spring but by the time I went inside and got my camera, he was gone. Thanks for commenting!

I just got an email from the people who were on the hike also. They were on a retreat courtesy of their company. Nice, friendly, young people. At the end of the hike, one of the young men gave me his card, so I had emailed a pic of the owl to him. They were the staff of Hoosier Environmental Council. Jesse, executive director wanted to know if he could post the owl photo on their Facebook site! I said, yes, of course!
