We used to have several every year in a wash next to the diatomaceous earth plant near Tracy, NV. The problem was that the road crossed the wash at the plant. We would get 20-30 miles southeast of the crossing for sage hen hunting and have to watch the skies. At the first hint of rain or bad weather, the race was on trying to beat the flash floor to the crossing. As young and stupid as I was, I would often clear the crossing just seconds ahead of the flood. When the flood hit the Truckee River about 100 yards north of the plant, the water could sometimes rise as close as a foot from the edge of Hwy 40 (now I-5). Had we not made the crossing in time we had a choice of a 12-18 hour wait until the flood subsided and the crossing dried, or a 75 mile drive south around the mountain to Hwy 395 -and that was all four wheeling.

You want to see real floods check out Calgary Flood and High River flood in June/July this year. Downtown Calgary was under water and all had to be evacuated. High river totally destroyed and evacuated for 26 to 41 days depending on location. Google is your friend.

Neat video, they are really taking a chance but I guess it gets it done. Thanks for posting and I hope that is coming to Lake Mead. (maybe without the debris)...Norm
