My family (husband and two daughters 4 & 10) and I are leaving for our first ever trip to Maine on the 23rd. We will be staying in Greenville Junction. Having never been there i dont know what to expect. I will be up early to catch the beautiful sunrises and in the evening I will capture the sunsets. Does anyone know of any "must photograph" areas near there? We will be doing a Moose tour, Seaplane tour and visiting Elephant Mountain(site of B52 crash.) I would love to check out some water falls and covered bridges if anyone knows of any in that area. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions!
If you are near Mt Katadin (sp) be up especially early and watch the upcoming sun light up the top of the mountain while the surrounding area is still in darkness.

More than an hour's distance apart.

One of the parts of Maine I never spent much time in. It's pretty remote and there are lots and lots of woods :)
Do watch out for moose in the road at dusk - no joke - as they are not something you want to hit while driving even 50 mph. If you are interested in seeing them, though, ask the locals which are the most likely locations.
I like your optimism regarding actually seeing the sun rise and set :) though August is probably one of the least rainy months.
Oh - and wear a LOT of insect repellent!!
Sarge, we are on the opposite side of the lake but will have a perfect view of the sun rising next to it. That is the shot I am most excited about! 😀I chose our cottage for that purpose. We are also doing a seaplane tour over it.
Great tips Linda! I wanted a vacation where we would have lots of time together so I chose Greenville Junction because it appeared quiet and away from all the hustle and bustle. We plan to unplug(TV, computers and even phones) for a few days if not the whole trip.
I can't wait for "my time" every morning. My family sleeps till 7-8 but I can't sleep on vacation and am usually awake by 4:30-5 am. It's during this time I will explore my surroundings with camera in tow.
Ayuh..watch out for the moose...and the Maineacs :)
LOL I'm so worried about hitting a moose.

Good grief, I don't remember that! Guess it's time for another visit. Please be sure to post your photos upon your return, crazyformickey!
A long drive, but worth it, Cadillac Mountain. The nations 1st sunrise. Gary

Loc: Florida's East Coast
If you have a day to head down to Acadia National Park it will be well worth the long drive. Spectacular in a different way. Take repellant, but the bugs aren't usually too bad in August.
Thanks gwong1 and Steve. I will check them out! We have 10 days there so a drive won't kill us 😉
