I'm new to the site. I need hints or suggestions for posing larger people for portraits.

You talking height or width? Tall people set in a chair next to standing people. Wide people, should wear loose fitting dark solid colors and stand. Also have them hold something. Like a bouquet of flowers or have a little kid stand in front of them. It breaks up the body image a little so it doesn't "add" to their girth in the photos.
Or say you have a couple. One thin the other heavy. Have the heavy one setting and holding a bouquet and the thin one standing with one foot up on a stool, somewhat angled sideways towards the other. leaning over as if to say something.
It's all about spatial equality.
