Welcome to the Weekend Challenge - Street Photography! I love seeing and studying spontaneous street scenes; however, this topic is way out of my comfort zone due to my tendency to shy away from this kind of photography. The following article has some wonderful advice and instruction on street photography.

http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/street-photography-tips-and-techniques/

If you are reading this challenge and this is one of your areas of expertise, etc., please take a moment to share your photographs and any advice or instruction that you have accumulated through experience.

I hope to have more examples that show more personal human interest before this challenge is over. My examples were taken at our town square during our July 4th celebration and fireworks.

Daylight was fading fast as I arrived at our town square on July 6th. The celebration had been delayed to Saturday due to the fact that it was monsooning on July 4th!

That street photography site is terrific. I was so proud to see that my ''tourist hypocrisy'' ( I live across the river from Québec City) is also used by the author. Dress and act like a tourist gets you a free pass in photography. I also am a fervent believer in protecting the invasion of privacy and so by using shadows I can hide some faces. Recently I was shooting the Québec Bridge and using low exposure and a fellow and his wife were fishing and he wasn't too pleased so I showed him the pictures explaining that I wanted the people in there but also I did not want their faces and he was happy about that.

I have more of a opportunity for road photography than street photography as I shy away from city life and parking meters.

Really liked the last one, Gracie!
Will get back with something in a bit. Like you, Gracie and Road, I don't gravitate much to crowd scenes....
Nice start,Gracie and a good exercise to encourage diversity!

GG, these are what I'd call true street scenes, and I especially love the last one of the girl. Makes me wonder what her story is . . . (pg. 1)

Morning, RR ~ Your city has the coolest streets! Just looking at the buildings is fun! Happy blueberry picking and I look forward to future posts this weekend. Hey, if you don't make it back to the city, your 'oldies' are always awesome! (pg. 1)

Lol! Oh no, not that far! I should have said 'half a square.' I imagine a city block is defined a little less grandiose in our neck of the woods. I'll ask Darrell how far it was that night ~ but it's still a good distance and was pushing the limits of my lens capabilities. ;)

Thanks, RR, I thought so as well. The article gave me a little more confidence with its practical advice. Hope to put the article into practice before Monday evening.

The photograph below is one I took after purchasing my first DSLR. We were at Mallory Square in Key West, FLorida, waiting for the sunset, and it was abuzz with street vendors, portable high wire acts, fire eaters, artists, a preacher preaching - and this guy. He didn't stop what he was doing, but I could tell he was annoyed with me taking his picture. I was by no means in his face, using a flash or anything - he just happened to look up right after I clicked. I was actually quite a distance away. Since that evening, I've been very careful as to what I shoot in this way!
