I've been fortunate to be holidaying in the tropical north of Australia, it really is paradise on earth. This was this mornings sunrise from the Palm Cove pier, looking out towards Double Island and Haylock Island.

Beautiful subject. Nice composition and use of thirds. Nice control of colors, and noise. Well done Andrew.

Andrew,

You took a perfectly good example of a subject that needs HDR, captured the images with the required EVs, and merged them into a final picture. Your composition is good, and congratulations on keeping the Horizon level :) .

The extremely wide range of exposure values in this image show the capabilities of careful use of HDR. The restraint you exercised in processing Local Tone Mapping shows well in not having light halos around contrasting elements of the image.

Some folks might criticize the bright yellow areas as blown out yellows. The simple fact is; when we are at the seaside, looking at a Sunrise, or Sunset, sometimes the yellows are blown out to our eyes, we cannot adjust for this spectral flaw. This is where careful use of the HDR processing controls shows the professional touch.

Thanks to you all for your comments.

Here is another shot, taken about 10 minutes later than the previous image, zoomed in on Haylock Island, the smaller of the two shown in the first image.
