I'm very new to photography. I was looking on eBay for photography equipment, when I came across 'digital background'. Might be a silly question but can someone explain digital background ? Is it worth getting and is it easy to apply to your photos?

A digital image file suitable for swapping in for the background of a shot.
Easy as pie when you know what you're doing.
What post processing software are you using?
Programs like Picasa and LightRoom don't do that without helper software.

Opposite of digital backgrounds.
Meant to be laid OVER an image.
Again, needs suitable software to use.

And lots of stuff on youtube. Search "PSE 10 tutorials".

*DO NOT* spend money on any of those files until you understand the process and have tried it with the samples.

Wall-E gave good advice but suggest you expand it to

don't buy any photo equipment till you know exactly why you need it and that it is the best 'thing' you can afford (not necessarily the best on the 'unlimited' budget that some seem to have!)

PSE 10 will do just about everything you will need for a while and then you will discover that it can do lots more than you may ever need.

If you think you need to change your background sometimes, I found a FREE program that does that, and much more. Just google Smartphoto.com, download, and start processing. Best of all the program comes with BUILT IN tutorials for each process available. That includes defocusing backgrounds, and many other features I haven't even explored yet. Have fun. DJT

Hello 1Georgie, and welcome to the hog. A digital background is a picture or a pattern of something else, that you replace the existing background with. It can be done in Photoshop Elements 10 quite easy, once you become accustom to working with it. A good place to learn how to do that and many other things can be found on this link: http://www.essential-photoshop-elements.com/
Just type-in what you're wanting to learn about. Very helpful site for Elements. Keep on shooting.

Digital Backgrounds generally either refer to a green or blue screen, and the background used when separating the subject shot on the green or blue screen.

I'll post some samples with this.
