My husband just told me about this forum... I am looking forward to seeing all the wonderful photos and making new friends.
One question I have is that I've taken a lot of photos that I don't want copied. Is it okay to post them here with watermarks?

Watermarking will not protect them from being copied. Are they really that good? Perhaps you'd be better served publishing them in a book. If you want to establish copyrights for your pictures, you need to register each one with the US copyright office. They have a web site where you can download the forms. Although you "own" the copyright for any of your work, you can not ENFORCE it in a court of law unless it's registered. So if someone on the internet takes your pictures and uses them for him/herself, all you need to do is find out who they are, find out when they did it, find out how much damage it has caused you or your reputation, hire a lawyer, sue them, and then win. Simple as that.
I hope you see what I'm trying to say here. Unless you are a well-known and easily identifiable artist, it's not only difficult, but virtually meaningless to 'watermark' your images so they don't get copied off the internet.
If you don't want them copied, don't put them on the 'net.
Thanks... I know that a watermark can be removed... but was hoping it'd be a deterrent. My photos aren't bookworthy, I don't think, but some that I've taken are, in my opinion, at least a little wonderful. And I went to so much work to get them I don't want anyone to just head off with them into the sunset.
Thanks for your information; I really do appreciate it. I'll post a few of them and you can let me know what you think.
