I don't know about the rest of you but I have an extremely hard time narrowing the contest photos down to one or a few to vote on. This week there were an exceptional amount of sensational photos.

There were 239 contestants this week, the majority of them had high quality photos, many are non-professionals and newbies. At the present moment there are almost 35,000 users with 159 people on site. I didn't count how many total votes but I'd guess if there are 300 I'd be surprised.

I'm asking what will it take for all of you to vote each week and personally PM a couple of people about how much you enjoyed their photo, even if it wasn't the winner? Support those people who enter, give them some encouraging words.

Many Hedgehogs are bummed out each week because their photo didn't win. A kind, honest word about their photo would let them know no matter where they finished in the contest, they still had a great photo. The competition is steep and many will never win but atleast 1/2 of the photos each week are nice quality photos.

I know several of you already do this and it means so much to the Hedgehog you PM. Thanks all, I love this Forum and all the support and kind words I have gotten. I hope everyone will step up, vote and send a few PM's each week!

VOTE or I'll tell the Grandsons or is that Godfathers?

I always vote but never thought of sending a PM good idea. I did have a little trouble with the bugs though, although most were very well photographed looking at them made me want to smack my iPad to get rid of them lol. Hope sometime soon to actually participate.

Hi, most weeks I usually enter the contest knowing that im not going to win as there are much better and more experienced photographers on this site than me. The contests though give me a challenge and inspiration to do better....
I think its a good idea to PM contestants and give a little encouragement, I will do it this week..
Regards kev

  hilarious! Some were beautiful! That one from AZ, if I had been there I would have photographed and its very poisonous...would have never known. Shows if you're going to a place and you photo everything in sight you might want to check out what's poisonous! Can't wait to see your work, thanks for voting!

Thank you for this post! I did not know that so few members actually voted. Too bad. This weekly contest is a highlight for me. I love learning how everyone interprets the topic. Each week I'm amazed at the talent displayed. The idea of PMing is right on! Others have done this for me and it profoundly touches me. I vow to do more of the same.

Ok, go to home, scroll down to under the Photography Forum to latest contests. You can still vote through today for the "insects." Check out the rules and instructions and hopefully well see your entry next week! It is fun to accept the challenge of the contest each week. All of the entry photos are good, so many are inspirational. Check it out! Be sure to ask if you have any more questions! Glad you're with us!

Ever since someone PM'd me last winter about my "Sticky Stuff" winner, I've been trying to do that with those for whom I voted. I try to keep votes to 3 or 4. Sometimes you'll see a few photos with .001 vote, which means someone out there voted 100 times!

It's been hugely helpful to have the feature now where we can compare our final choices and narrow it down further. Again, thanks to Steve for making that happen!

And thank you CardinalLady for this nice post.

I just hope no one votes for the spiders, scorpions, centipedes etc no matter how good the pics are. An insect is an insect, maybe the moderator could delete the non complying images before voting is over

Concur. Each contest has too many submissions that don't meet the generally, broad criteria.

Could you be a little lax for the non technical? For many an insect is a bug, a little critter, anything in the backyard that's not an animal or bird. There are many super photos this week that fall in the broader definition. You can vote on the true insect and PM the person to let them know they photographed a "real" insect. I think most topics allow for a broad interpretation but there is a line that disqualifies it. This probably would be a great topic by itself! I tend to give a lot of leeway, but maybe you are right... Would love to see what others think! Look forward to you starting a new topic on this!
