Harmon Direct Positive FB film

Ordered a box of Harmon Direct Positive FB Glossy film. While looking on the internet I suspect it does not have notches. Does anyone know how to tell the emulsion side. Called Adorama and they didn't know. I plan to cut this 4x5 down to 2x3 and it would really help if I knew what side has the emulsion.

Old trick...the side that sticks to your tongue better is the emulsion. I'm serious!
Also, if there is a slight curl to it, the emulsion is usually on the inside of the curl

Interesting stuff.
I thought it was film.
I think the tongue test may still be valid.
With printing paper, the emulsion is usually on the outside of the curl. Not sure about this.

Thanks The curling thing was what made me curious. I sent an Email to Ilford. I think I'll wait for their response before I start licking things that are probably not on the tasty side. Thanks for the info though.

I've done wet darkroom processing only once, at a workshop. Has anyone had experience with this Direct Positive paper? How must it be handled? What's the process after exposure? Does it require a full darkroom?

It always helps to read other posts. The previous one by Mogul has a link that should answer all your technical questions.

I suggest that you take a single sheet of film out into the light so you can determine the side emulsion. If you hold it at an angle to a light the emulsion side will be duller.

I see now it's paper not film. The emulsion side will be smoother, easy to tell the difference with glossy paper. Using cotton gloves also helps.

You purchase this paper without reading the requirements to handle and process? I read the technical on this paper and you going to need to buy more than the paper.

Wow-- Lots of response. Yes I already have the Darkroom supplies and already develop my own film. I built a pinhole camera that I can use 2x3 film holders ,roll and polaroid film in.I figured I'd try the stuff that Ilford sends with it's pinhole camera. After some investigating I found that it does not have notches and thats what started the thread. Thank You One and All for your help. PS I know that it doesn't come in 2x3 I plan to cut it down like I do color film.

That happens to me occasionally too.
This thread has me interested.
I got rid of almost all my darkroom equipment about 10 years ago and I have missed it.
Cheers!
