Hi, everyone. I'm new to uglyhedgehog but am impressed with the photography expertise shown in the discussions and hope someone can answer my question. I had a Fujifilm F200 camera which took good pictures for about 6 months, then the quality gradually diminished. It quit working entirely last month. I contacted the Fujifilm company and sent it to them three weeks ago..and they still haven't told me what's wrong with it.
Since I assume the charge for "fixing" this two-year-old camera will be at least a couple of hundred dollars or more, I think I'd rather spend money on getting a new one, but, naturally, I don't want another Fujifilm camera. I looked on the Internet for a quality, yet relatively inexpensive, camera and found that the Canon Powershot Elph 310 has good reviews. Can anyone confirm that or recommend another camera in the $200-$300 range? I want one that has a good automatic setting and will take quality pictures for printing. The zoom feature is nice, but not essential.
Thanks for any help anyone can give me.
You might look at a Sony hx5. I bought this camera about 2 months ago. It has a 10x zoom and can take video in 1080 hd. i bought it at Amazon.com for $200.00. You can go on you tube and see different demonstrations of what it could do. Hope this helps you.
I suggest that you go to Ken Rockwell's site. He has pretty good recommendations for all kinds of cameras.

I did a fair amount of research on this issue and finally settled on a Canon Powershot S95 which now that the S100 is out, can be purchased for $290 from B&H. You can use
http://snapsort.com/compare? as a tool to compare various cameras.
This was very helpful. Thanks.
Hi
The suggestions that you have received are for good solid cameras, BUT, they may not be well suited to you. I am attaching a handout I use in the digital photo class i teach on selecting a camera, it might help you. Contact me directly if you have specific questions
Wow...how cool is this!? Lots of great info. Some of it is a little Greek to me, but I printed it out and will peruse it again. Thank you!
